Transitioning from WesternIM Connector for Outlook (WCO) to EmailPointer (EP): A Step-by-Step Guide

If your organization has been using WesternIM Connector for Outlook (WCO) for your email management needs, it’s time to transition to the new and improved EmailPointer (EP). With enhanced features and a more user-friendly interface, EP is set to make your email management experience even better. In this blog post, we’ll walk you through the process of updating from WCO to EP, including uninstalling WCO and installing EP using the provided MSI file from WesternIM. Additionally, we’ll cover the necessary steps to get your existing users licensed with WesternIM.

Step 1: Uninstalling WesternIM Connector for Outlook (WCO)

Before you can install the new EmailPointer (EP), you must first uninstall the WCO software from your system. Follow these simple steps to do so:

  1. Close Microsoft Outlook if it’s running on your computer.
  2. Open the Control Panel on your system (you can search for it using the Start menu).
  3. Navigate to Programs and Features (or Add or Remove Programs, depending on your Windows version).
  4. Locate “WesternIM Connector for Outlook” in the list of installed programs.
  5. Click on the WCO entry and select “Uninstall” or “Remove” (again, depending on your Windows version).
  6. Follow the prompts to complete the uninstallation process.

Step 2: Installing EmailPointer (EP) using the provided MSI

Now that you have successfully uninstalled WCO, it’s time to install EmailPointer (EP) using the MSI file provided by WesternIM. Follow these steps:

  1. New users signing up at EmailPointer.com will have the MSI installer download during signup. Current users, download the EmailPointer MSI installer file from the link provided by your WesternIM representative.
  2. Double-click on the downloaded MSI file to start the installation process.
  3. Follow the on-screen instructions to complete the installation. Be sure to accept the terms and conditions and choose the appropriate installation directory.
  4. Once the installation is complete, restart Microsoft Outlook.

Step 3: Submitting a list of user emails for licensing

For organizations that previously used WCO, you’ll need to submit a list of user emails to WesternIM to obtain licenses for the new EmailPointer software. Follow these steps to ensure a smooth transition:

  1. Create a comprehensive list of all user email addresses in your organization that require access to EmailPointer. This can be done using an Excel spreadsheet or a simple text document.
  2. Save the list in a secure location, as it contains sensitive information.
  3. Email the list to your WesternIM representative or to the designated licensing email address provided by WesternIM.
  4. Await confirmation from WesternIM that your user licenses have been processed. This may take a few business days.
  5. Once you receive confirmation, inform your users that they can now access and use EmailPointer with their existing email accounts.

For new users signing up on EmailPointer.com will not need to submit their email. Your account was automatically setup during registration.

Transitioning from WesternIM Connector for Outlook (WCO) to EmailPointer (EP) is a relatively straightforward process, but it requires a few important steps to ensure a smooth and successful transition. By following this step-by-step guide, you can easily uninstall WCO, install EP, and obtain the necessary user licenses to get your organization up and running with the new software. With EmailPointer, you can enjoy a more seamless email management experience and take advantage of the latest features and improvements.
